Alternative splicing is an important cellular mechanism to increase the diversity of gene products (Sunyaev et al. 2000). Different alternative splicing forms have been associated with different physiology and biological phenotypes (Hanke et al. 1999), and tissue-specific alternative splicing has been of much interest in recent years (Xu et al. 2002). It has been estimated that about 40% of human genes have alternatively spliced forms (Mironov et al. 1999); (Brett et al. 2000a); (Modrek et al. 2001). In contrast, a much smaller number of alternatively spliced genes have been reported so far in plants.


  We've built a plant alternative splicing database based on submitted sequencing information and former publications, and predicted possible alternative splicing variants in rice(Zhou et al. 2003). Here are the database building and data collection result.

  The information in the database was curated from submitted sequences and publications for all plant species, accompanied by carefully revised references. So our work is a compilation of former works, and a good starting point for further research. The database is available at http://database.chgc.sh.cn:8080/pasdb, and will be updated every six months.

  The Plant Alternative Splicing Database (PASDB) covers 54 species, 422 genes and 950 products that root in 199 references. In PASDB, 111 genes had genome sequence, products(mRNA or protein) sequences and reference; 6 genes had genome sequence and reference but had not products(mRNA or protein) sequences; 18 genes had genome sequence and products(mRNA or protein) sequences but had not reference; 126 genes had products(mRNA or protein) sequences and reference but had not genome sequence; 1 genes had genome sequence but had not reference and products(mRNA or protein) sequences; 155 genes had products(mRNA or protein) sequences but had not genome sequence and reference; 5 genes had reference but had not genome sequence and products(mRNA or protein) sequences;
